As the school year winds down to a close, high school seniors experience what is one of the most highly anticipated nights of their young adult lives:  Prom.  Sharing stories with friends about school, dancing with friends, and getting dressed up in stunning gowns, students see prom as their rite of passage into the next step of adulthood.  And thanks to the Brooklyn College Partnership (BCCP), and donations made by MCU employees and its members, some high school seniors who would have difficulty affording the high costs of their proms were able to take part in that special evening that celebrates both their successful past and bright future.

On May 13th, BCCP held its second annual “Belle of the Ball” project, an initiative to collect dresses, shoes, and handbags to donate to high school seniors who are facing financial hardship.  MCU was able to collect and donate over 150 dresses at both its corporate office and branch locations.  200 students from various area high schools gathered at Brooklyn College to find the perfect prom dress and accessories for their special night.  Not only were the ladies given dresses and accessories to wear, they also had an opportunity to speak with a make-up artist who gave tips for their dream night.

“What the BCCP has done for the community by hosting this event is extraordinary.  Giving these young women an opportunity to attend their senior prom is something we are honored to take part in.”, said Trisha Guy, Event Marketing Manager of MCU.  “We are thrilled to help these young women enjoy what hopes to be a special evening which they will always remember.”
