
Joy S. Schwartz has served on MCU’s Board of Directors since 2010. A member of MCU for seven years, Ms. Schwartz joined MCU after discovering that MCU's mortgage closing costs and interest rates were the best rates available. Ms. Schwartz participates on two Board Committees. Ms. Schwartz had served the City of New York in multiple positions for 33 years after her graduation from Brooklyn College. She began her career as a teacher of English at New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn, and after the birth of her three children Marc, Lisa, and Andrew, returned to City service in Bedford-Stuyvesant as a teacher of Adult Basic Education in the WEP / Title Six Program. While employed in the Mayor's Office, Ms. Schwartz studied at New York Law School's evening division and in 1991, earned her J.D. degree. Ms. Schwartz retired from City service in 2007, and spends her leisure time visiting with her children, five grandchildren and one grand-dog. Ms. Schwartz also serves on the boards of two social service agencies on Staten Island, where she currently resides.
