Mario Matos Jr. has been on the Board of Directors since 2009. He has seventeen years of civil service experience, primarily with the Board of Education. Mr. Matos has been a teacher at Halsey Middle School — I.S. 296 in Brooklyn since 1993. He has also held multiple staff positions for various New York City Councilmen, most recently as Deputy Chief of Staff for New York City Council Majority Leader Joel Rivera, a title he has held since 2001. In addition to his position on the Board of Directors at MCU, Mr. Matos serves as a Delegate for the National Education Association, the American Federation of Teachers, the New York State United Teachers, The New York City Central Labor Council, and the United Federation of Teachers, where he is also an Executive Board Member. A native of Brooklyn and graduate of Baruch College with a Master's Degree from St. John's, Mr. Matos and his wife Cinthia (who is also a New York City educator) reside in Queens, and have three children and four grandchildren.
