Hon. Sylvia G. Ash was elected to the Board of Directors in May, 2008, and currently holds the position of 1st Vice Chair and Chair of the Strategic Committee. A graduate of Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C., Justice Ash was recently elected to the Supreme Court of the State of New York, having sat as a Civil Court Judge in Kings County for the past 5 years. Prior to her election to the Judicial Bench, Justice Ash was a former Law Clerk in the Superior Court of New Jersey and a practicing attorney for over 20 years. She was also the General Counsel, Pro Bono, for the NAACP's Department of Social Services. Her last assignment as an attorney was with District Council 37 where she worked as a Supervising Attorney and Chief Counsel of their Immigration Program. Justice Ash is very active in her community and serves as a mentor to various youth organizations and religious and civic institutions. Justice Ash also sits on the Board of Directors of St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church and Q'Kingdom Ministries, Inc. She is an active member of the American Bar Association and the New York Criminal and Civil Bar Association.
