MUNICIPAL CREDIT UNION RE-UPS SPONSORSHIP
OF AWARD-WINNING BRONX SCHOOL FOR LAW DEBATE TEAM

- Enables Team to Attend National Competition for Second Straight Year -

June 7, 2010, New York City - Municipal Credit Union (MCU) has re-upped its sponsorship of the Bronx School for Law, Government & Justice Debate Team for a second year. MCU presented its sponsorship check for $5,000 to team coach Erik Fogel and members of the school's 2010 debate team. (see attached photo). MCU's support allows the team to compete in regional and national debates.

The Bronx School for Law, Government & Justice debate team is the largest urban debate team in New York City. Located in an impoverished area near Yankee Stadium in the South Bronx, the school has attracted praise and attention for its academic excellence. As a result of corporate support and dedicated educators and coaches, the team has won top honors at every tournament across the East Coast, including New York, Newark, Boston, Washington D.C., and Baltimore.

Team coach Erik Fogel said, "The Municipal Credit Union has been one of our most generous supporters and has provided among many things - the means to send our students to the national debate championships at the end of each year and transform our program from a local debate team to a national debate team with a national reputation!"

MCU also provided team members with shirts imprinted with the school logo to help team members proudly identify themselves at debates and other public events. In addition, the credit union's involvement with the school and its students extends beyond its financial support of the debate team. As part of its relationship, MCU Youth Coordinator Huey Ferguson will conduct financial literacy workshops for the school's incoming students during the summer orientation session.

MCU's support of the Bronx School for Law, Government & Justice is a key component of the credit union's comprehensive corporate initiative for youth education. In addition to its robust college scholarship program, MCU promotes and supports a variety of programs on youth financial education under its youth education umbrella across New York City's five boroughs.

"MCU is committed to our community and to its future. We believe it is our responsibility to give back to the city and our members. Our educational initiatives, such as our sponsorship of the Bronx school's debate team, are just an example of how MCU invests in our community, our young people, and our collective future. We're proud to be able to help such a fine school and such deserving students," said MCU President and CEO Kam Wong.

The Bronx School for Law, Government & Justice was created in 1997 by the NYC Board of Education and the Urban Assembly, a group founded to create high quality educational opportunities in inner cities. The school shares its campus with the Bronx County Courthouse and enrolls over 600 students in grades 7-12. The school specializes in legal-oriented courses and activities, such as forensic science, criminal procedure, economics, and business law.
