MCU Announces St. John’s University Students Can Now Join Field of Membership at Sponsored Red Storm Basketball Game

Municipal Credit Union proudly announced that St. John’s University students can now join our field of membership during a special on-court presentation at the MCU sponsored St. John's men’s basketball game at Madison Square Garden on February 11, 2017. The announcement was jointly made by MCU Board Chair James Durrah, St. John's University President Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, Ph.D. and Student Government President Chiara Miuccio.

"We are pleased to welcome St. John’s students into MCU's membership," said Mr. Durrah. "The addition of St. John's students to our field of membership is part of our continued extension to serve public and private colleges throughout the five boroughs, as well as an extension of our growing relationship with St. John’s University. We encourage all St. John's students to look at MCU as a low-cost financial alternative to banks and other lending institutions. We are confident that MCU can help them grow into financially responsible and successful young adults and future leaders of our communities."

MCU, which has a long history of serving St. John’s University staff and faculty, was recently named the official credit union of St. John’s University Athletics.

“Like Municipal Credit Union, St. John’s has a long history as a New York City institution, and we are proud to strengthen our relationship with MCU to provide this service to our students,” said Dr. Gempesaw.

In addition to announcing the expansion of our field of membership, MCU recognized NYPD officers Frank Callaghan and Mike McEvoy at Most Valuable New Yorkers.

The MCU Most Valuable New Yorker program was created to recognize the hard-working men and women of New York City who selflessly go above and beyond to make New York a better place to work and live. Individuals who display dedication to service and their community through their efforts are selected to be honored by MCU so that other New Yorkers can be inspired by their story. MCU honors Most Valuable New Yorkers at various events throughout the city, including St. John’s University Basketball games, CUNY Athletics events, and Brooklyn Cyclones games held at MCU Park.

Officers Callaghan and McEvoy of the 121st Precinct in Staten Island were recognized for going above and beyond after responding to a call in which four year-old Samantha Sietz’s birthday presents had been stolen from her family’s van. The officers, recognizing an opportunity to make a difference for the family, saved the day by making a trip to Toys R’ Us and replacing the gifts.
