MCU Board Director Beryl Major Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

In recognition of her decades of dedication to the public sector and her position as a member of Municipal Credit Union’s board of directors, Beryl Major received both a Lifetime Achievement Award from The New York City Council and New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators and a separate special recognition from Councilman Robert Cornegy Jr. on Thursday, February 16, 2017.

Ms. Major has been a member of the MCU Board of Directors since 2013, where she advocates for the credit union movement on behalf of members. She is currently the Chair of the Coordinating Committee and serves on the Fiscal and Membership committees.

After 34 years of service in the Labor field, she retired from her position as the Director of Membership Development for Local 420, Public Healthcare Workers, DC 37. She is a member of the Global Women’s Leadership Network, NAACP, CBTU, the Coalition of Labor Union Women, the East Elmhurst Civic Association, an executive board member of the Frederick Douglass Democratic Club, and was chosen to participate in the renowned CORO Leadership program in its infancy.

“I’m very proud to have had the opportunity to dedicate my life and career to public service,” said Ms. Major. “It is truly an honor to be recognized by the New York City Council and New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators. Our shared interest in advocating for New York City’s residents and communities is truly a special bond.”
