MCU Board of Directors 2nd Vice Chair Loretta Y. Jones was recognized for her career success and commitment to service at the 2017 Power Women in Business Awards held at El Caribe in Brooklyn, New York on Thursday, March 1, 2018.
A member of the Board of Directors since 2012, Ms. Jones has dedicated her career to serving New York in various public capacities for more than 35 years.
Ms. Jones retired from the Department of Housing Preservation and Development in 2008, where she was employed as a Paralegal Specialist. She has also held many positions of leadership in support of the trade union movement, including shop steward, delegate, Chairperson of the Housing Preservation and Development Chapter Local 1549, DC 37 and Recording Secretary of Local 1549 DC 37.
Ms. Jones is also a long-time community activist. She is the co-founder of the Highbridge Community Pre-School Center and served as treasurer of the first African-American president of Community School Board #11.
Launched in 1990 by Schneps Communications’ Publisher Victoria Schneps, the Power Women in Business Awards is designed to empower women and connect them with each other. The event honors and recognizes successful business, community, cultural, political, civic and religious female leaders. The event includes a business expo and trade show with networking followed by a dinner and awards ceremony.
