MCU Co-Sponsors Joe Lemm Memorial Celebrity vs. NYPD Basketball Game

MCU partnered with WFAN’s Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton and St. John’s University to cosponsor the Joe Lemm Memorial Celebrity Basketball Game on Friday, May 6, 2016 at St. John’s Carnesecca Arena. Det. Lemm was a 15 year veteran of the NYPD who was killed in Afghanistan 4 days before Christmas while serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

“It is an honor to support an event that’s giving back to the family of Det. Lemm, who was an outstanding servant to our city and our country", added Corey Fernandes, VP Business Development Member Relations.

Before the game, Det. Lemm’s family was honored on the court with a moving tribute and a standing ovation from the crowd in attendance. His daughter Brooke performed the national anthem.

Super bowl winning Coach Bill Cowher then led a team of 17 active NYPD officers in a friendly basketball game against a group of celebrities, which included Craig Carton and Boomer Esiason; New York Mets Hall of Fame pitcher John Franco; International Tennis Hall of Famer and former World’s No. 1 player John McEnroe; former NBA player Chris Mullen; former New York Giants Justin Tuck and Tiki Barber; former Duke standout Thomas Hill; CBS analyst Doug Gottliebe and former NBA player Marty Conlon and many more.

The game ended with a 66-61 victory for the celebrity team.
