MCU Honors Darrick Gatling as Most Valuable New Yorker

In continuing our support and appreciation for the people who exemplify the spirit of our city, Municipal Credit Union proudly recognized New York City Transit Bus Driver and M.A.D. Focus Founder Darrick Gatling with the Most Valuable New Yorker (MVNY) Award at Carnesecca Arena on Sunday, February 3, 2018.

Gatling, a father four and Yonkers resident, founded M.A.D. Focus (short for Motivation + Ambition + Determination = Focus) to give back to the Brooklyn communities where he works. Through his organization, Gatling organizes four events a year — a back-to-school book bag and supplies giveaway, a food drive for Thanksgiving, a Christmas toy drive and a political writing contest, in which he invites children to pen poems, songs or essays for prizes.

Because of these efforts, Gatling was named a 2017 Hometown Hero by the New York Daily News.

“We’re very proud to recognize Darrick as a Most Valuable New Yorker,” said MCU Vice President of Business Development/Member Relations Corey Fernandes. “He is a shining example of the difference all of us can make to our neighbors and communities when we recognize a need and have the drive to make a positive difference.”

This is the second year of the MCU Most Valuable New Yorker program, which was created to recognize the hardworking men and women of New York City who selflessly go above and beyond to make New York a better place to work and live. Individuals who display dedication to service and their community through their efforts are selected to be honored by MCU so that other New Yorkers can be inspired by their story. MCU honors Most Valuable New Yorkers at various events throughout the city, including St. John’s University Basketball games, CUNY Athletics events, and Brooklyn Cyclones games held at MCU Park.
