MCU Honors Most Valuable New Yorkers

In continuing our appreciation for the individuals who make our city great, Municipal Credit Union proudly recognized New York City Police Department (NYPD) Officers Abigail Brunner and Patrick Leonard of the 69th Precinct with the Most Valuable New Yorker Award at the St. John’s University basketball game on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Officer Brunner and Officer Leonard are the first to receive the award in 2018.

Office Brunner and Officer Leonard are still relatively new to the NYPD, with just two and a half years and one year of experience respectively. However, the two officers proved to be true heroes on October 25, 2017 when they were flagged down by a motorist who stated his wife was in labor. During the delivery, Officer Brunner observed the umbilical cord in a potentially dangerous position and carefully removed it from around the baby’s neck. Once the baby was safely delivered, the officers stabilized mother and baby and readied them for transportation to the nearest hospital. Their combined efforts were vital to the survival of mother and baby.

“Officers Brunner and Leonard embody everything we value in our first responders,” said MCU Vice President of Business Development/Member Relations Corey Fernandes, who presented the Most Valuable New Yorker Award. “They are a true asset to our city and we are proud to honor them. We’d like to again thank them for their dedication to our communities.”

This is the second year of the MCU Most Valuable New Yorker program, which was created to recognize the hardworking men and women of New York City who selflessly go above and beyond to make New York a better place to work and live. Individuals who display dedication to service and their community through their efforts are selected to be honored by MCU so that other New Yorkers can be inspired by their story. MCU honors Most Valuable New Yorkers at various events throughout the city, including St. John’s University Basketball games, CUNY Athletics events, and Brooklyn Cyclones games held at MCU Park.
