MCU Looks toward a Second Century of Innovation, Growth and the Changing Member Experience at the 2017 Annual Meeting

MCU Board Chair James Durrah and President/CEO Kam Wong addressed more than 600 members at the 2017 Annual Meeting held on Wednesday, May 10 at the New York Hilton Midtown Manhattan Hotel to report a year of sustainable growth and continued improvements as the credit union celebrated and reflected on its 100th year of service to New York. In recognition of achieving these milestones, MCU discussed the latest round of products, technological advancements and community-minded efforts developed throughout the past year.

“In 2016, MCU reported a record year as we grew to nearly $2.5 billion in assets,” said MCU Board Chair James Durrah. “As we continued to prove our financial soundness, our efforts to enhance our digital offerings, financial education programming, data security and advocacy for credit union legislation demonstrated both our integrity as a not-for-profit financial institution and our leadership within the financial services industries. Most importantly, we have remained dedicated to serving our more than 400,000 members.”

As part of its effort to improve its member experience, MCU expanded its ATM Network with 21 new locations throughout New York City. In addition to bolstering its physical footprint, advancements to MCU’s digital and mobile technology have empowered our members to manage their finances with simplicity and security from anywhere in the world. These upgrades included the new Bill Pay service and the continued improvements of the NYMCU Online and Mobile Banking platforms.

In addition to successfully improving connectivity and accessibility in 2016, MCU introduced new products and services to help members achieve their unique personal financial goals.

“This year, we launched our new TRUE Rewards Cash Back VISA® Credit Card, which provides our members with the opportunity to receive one percent cash back on net purchases with no annual fee or penalty rate pricing,” said MCU President/CEO Kam Wong. “In addition, our efforts to help members achieve their goals through our Financially Fit financial education program was well received and acclaimed by our industry.”

As MCU looked to the future of serving its members, the credit union remained unwavering in its commitment to its long-standing legacy of giving back to its members and the communities in which they work and live across New York.

“This year, the launch of our 100 Acts of Kindness campaign led to MCU employees donating hundreds of volunteer hours with local charity organizations and supporting philanthropic events and causes throughout the New York City area,” said Durrah. “Municipal Credit Union additionally continued our corporate partnerships with well-recognized charitable missions, including American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign and City Harvest’s Skip Lunch Fight Hunger initiative.”

Most importantly, MCU’s success in its centennial year has set new standards of excellence that will define the credit union for years to come.

“In 2016, we proved that while it is clear that much is changing for MCU, our commitment to our credit union roots is stronger than ever,” said Wong. “And as we focus on our members and building lifetime quality financial relationships with them, we will remain Strong, Trusted, and Growing in our second century of service.”
