MCU Spreads Financial Literacy to LaGuardia Community College

In a continued effort to empower the young people throughout New York City, MCU President/CEO Kam Wong met with 25 students from the LaGuardia Community College President’s Society to share his experiences and give advice for becoming successful in today’s competitive environment on Thursday, September 14, 2017.

“It was a pleasure speaking with the President’s Society today,” said Mr. Wong. “These students have already demonstrated the enthusiasm and hard work it will take to succeed after college. I look forward to seeing what they will accomplish in the future.”

Mr. Wong’s visit is part of MCU’s ongoing relationship with LaGuardia Community College and its students. Most notably, the credit union joined in welcoming students to a new academic year by hosting Financially Fit Seminars design to help more than 240 incoming freshmen gain a better understanding or credit and other financial basics.

“We’re very proud of the Financially Fit seminars we provided to incoming LaGuardia College Freshmen,” said MCU Vice President of Business Development/Member Relations Corey Fernandes, who worked to organize the seminars. “Financial literacy is an increasingly important component in preparing college students for success after graduation and starting early is key. As students continue to take out loans to pay for college, it’s essential that they have the skills to manage their money and financial obligations throughout their lives.”
