Mortgage Loan Originator
Primary Job Function
Responsible for calling customers and prospective members and clients to promote new and additional mortgage business for the Credit Union.
Pre-qualify and interview mortgage applicants and take their applications at all MCU locations.
Begin processing of loan and prepare preliminary Good Faith Estimate, Truth in Lending Disclosure, and Lock-in Agreement in compliance with RESPA.
Review applications received by mail. Answer telephones.
Attend expos and other various functions to promote new business.
Responsibilities
Interview mortgage applicants.
Perform follow-up phone calls to potential new applicants.
Pre-qualify prospective borrowers and assist with completing applications.
Review the sales contract, income, asset and debt information to make sure applicants meet MCU's minimum standard.
Review preliminary Credit Report and advise borrowers of any additional required documentation.
Enter preliminary information in PC based mortgage processing computer network.
Begin processing (including ordering flood certifications and appraisals, and sending out verifications if necessary).
Prepare preliminary Good Faith Estimate, Truth in Lending Disclosure, and Lock-in Agreement in compliance with RESPA.
Review files weekly a send follow up letters as required.
Move file to processing as soon as possible.
Visit branches and take applications on a rotating basis.
Review all applications received by mail and from branches.
Prospects and sells mortgage loan services.
Calls on members and prospective members to promote new and additional mortgage business for the Credit Union.
Is familiar with all MCU products and services and cross sells to members.
Proposes and recommends new mortgage products through identifying the needs of customers contacted.
Administers an effective cross reference file listing names of prospects contacted and the specific results of such calls.
Attends various Credit Union promotional exhibits, expos, seminars, and other functions to promote new business and educate borrowers.
Responsible for the integrity of all data obtained.
Performs other related duties and special projects as required.
Requirements
College degree preferred.
Experience with Real Estate sales, originations, and related banking experience.
Thorough knowledge of all Fannie Mae and secondary market requirements.
Good interpersonal skills to represent Municipal Credit Union in a positive fashion.
Must be sales oriented.
Able to work extended hours, occasional weekends, and travel throughout New York City area required.
A high level of interpersonal skills to assist members and various departments with questions and or problems.
Knowledge of Department's mortgage products, operations and procedures and overall process.
Must have thorough knowledge of federal and state laws regarding mortgage servicing and escrow account maintenance.
Proficiency in Microsoft for Windows Applications.
