FRAUD ALERT! Tech Support Phone Scam
A new phone scam has recently appeared that we would like to make members aware
of. Scam artists are calling people claiming to be computer techs associated with
well-known companies like Microsoft, Dell or McAfee. They say they have detected
viruses or other malware on your computer to trick you into giving them remote access
to your computer or paying for software you don’t need.
This is a phone scam and has one purpose: to make money. If you receive a call from
someone who claims to be a tech support person, hang up and call the company yourself
on a phone number that you know to be genuine. Never give control of your computer
to a third party who calls you out of the blue and never provide your credit card
or financial information to someone who calls and claims to be from tech support.
