Haiti: A Message from the President and Chairman of the Board

We have all seen the horror of the devastating earthquake that took place in Haiti on January 12th, and we are all aware of the dire and continuing need for aid to help its citizens survive and rebuild their country. We wanted you to know two things: First, MCU has made a $20,000 donation to the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), an international credit union organization which has activated a disaster relief fund for Haiti. WOCCU, among its activities on behalf of earthquake victims, is helping the general population in partnership with Food for the Poor.

The second thing we wish to say is that Haiti’s need is far greater than any single contribution can satisfy. We therefore urge you to make your own contributions to the charitable organization of your choice if you have not already done so. We are not recommending or endorsing a particular charity because there are many wonderful organizations that will support different needs of the people of Haiti, and that choice should be yours.

What we do want to say is that credit unions have always been about people helping people, and MCU members are among the most generous and decent people we know. As we see the continuing devastation, let us keep our Haitian brothers and sisters in our hearts, minds and in our prayers and to the extent that we can, let us continue to offer them our financial support. Thank You.
