People have reported receiving fraudulent e-mails that appear to be coming from Municipal Credit Union. One e-mail
threatens deactivation of the member's MCU home banking service unless they immediately renew by clicking on the
link contained in the e-mail. This link takes the person to a false MCU site with a counterfeit version of our home banking
log-on. Another e-mail message invites the recipient to go take a survey at the MCU site and receive cash in compensation.
Both of these messages are Identity Theft scams. It is the sender's hope that they will capture you entering your personal
information so they can gain access to your MCU account.
If you receive such an e-mail, do not click on the link or respond to it. Instead, contact MCU immediately and let us know.
Never click on links in e-mail messages that ask you to provide or verify your personal account information.
MCU will never ask to verify or update your account information by e-mail or over the phone because we already have that information.
As an extra measure of protection you should know MCU's URL
www.nymcu.org and type it directly into the address field
of your browser or bookmark it as one of your favorites.
For more information about phishing scams, read the article,
Protect Yourself Against Internet Fraud that we have
placed in the Fraud Alert section of our web site. A link to the Fraud Alert section is located on our home page below the MCU OnLine Home Banking log-on.
This section of our site which is updated regularly contains important information to help you protect
your personal accounts as you continue to enjoy the convenience of online banking.
