FRAUD ALERT ! Text Message Vishing Scam – “Devitcard” Restriction

Some members have reported receiving a fraudulent text message on their cell phone that seems to be coming from MCU. At this time, it appears T-Mobile phones are being targeted, however that could change quickly.

The text message reads: “Your devitcard has been placed on restriction. In order to update this problem call [toll free phone number].”

Note the misspelling of the word “devitcard”, which is how it appears in the message. Different toll free phone numbers may be used, as well as different variations of financial institutions. The message does not include the credit union’s name.

A text message of this type is an attempt to steal your personal information. Cell phone users should be wary of unsolicited text messages. Such messages should be deleted and all deleted text messages should be removed, if possible, as perpetrators have been known to use Spyware in conjunction with text message solicitations.

Do not respond to unsolicited text messages, email messages or telephone calls that attempt to notify you of account related issues or ask for any account or private information. MCU will never contact you by email, text message or phone call to notify you of account related issues or to ask you to update or verify your account information.

If you receive a text message of this type, please notify Municipal Credit Union by calling the Contact Center immediately at 212-693-4900. If you think your MCU accounts have been compromised, report it to our Fraud Department by filling out and submitting a
Fraud Investigation Form.
