In continuing our support and appreciation for the people who exemplify the spirit of our city, Municipal Credit Union proudly recognized New York Police Department (NYPD) Detective and Honor Legion member Michael Gildea with the Most Valuable New Yorker (MVNY) Award during the St. John’s University men’s basketball game at Carnesecca Arena on Saturday, February 10, 2018.
Gildea, a 17-year veteran of the NYPD, currently works on the FBI Violent Crimes/Joint Bank Robbery Task Force. He is the recipient of several awards and medals, including one awarded to him after capturing a suspect who fired at him without firing back. Gildea spent the first 10 years of his NYPD career working throughout Queens in a number of different assignments and now covers the entire city and assists the FBI on many global investigations.
In addition to his service on the NYPD, Gildea also gives back to New Yorkers as the Chief of Department of the Volunteer Fire Department in his hometown, where he has volunteered since he was 18.
“We ‘re proud to honor Michael Gildea as a Most Valuable New Yorker,” said MCU Vice President of Business Development/Member Relations. “Michael’s personal and professional commitment to keeping our city and neighbors safe truly embodies the spirit of the MVNY Award and we’d like to thank him for his service and dedication.”
This is the second year of the MCU Most Valuable New Yorker program, which was created to recognize the hardworking men and women of New York City who selflessly go above and beyond to make New York a better place to work and live. Individuals who display dedication to service and their community through their efforts are selected to be honored by MCU so that other New Yorkers can be inspired by their story. MCU honors Most Valuable New Yorkers at various events throughout the city, including St. John’s University Basketball games, CUNY Athletics events, and Brooklyn Cyclones games held at MCU Park.
